Graduate Pathway in Global Affairs

Do you want to study for a graduate degree in the United States but need to improve English language skills or test scores? A Pathway program provides academic, language and cultural support in order to succeed at a US university. Students are guaranteed progression to a graduate degree program through curriculum consisting of credit-earning courses. We provide full integration with domestic and international students on campus from highly trained university instructors and tutors while giving you academic support throughout the program.

2-SEMESTER PATHWAY

  • 30 credit hour program
  • 9 credit hours apply from Pathway

  • Introduction to Graduate Study II

  • Economic Globalization and Development
  • Global Interdisciplinary Research Methods*
  • Linguistics Capstone

*This Pathway accepts students with certain three-year degrees. Students will substitute two Mason Core or equivalent courses for Interpersonal Communication for International Students: Practicum and Theory/Advanced English for Academic Purposes  and selected major course in consultation with an academic advisor.

Graduate Entry Paths and Requirements

There are multiple routes to graduate admission at George Mason University.  As an international graduate student, admission is determined by academic performance and English language proficiency.

2-Semester Pathway:
  • 4-year undergraduate degree or equivalent1
  • 2.75 undergraduate GPA equivalent
  • TOEFL iBT 70 (13+ subscores in reading and listening)
  • IELTS 6.0 (5.5+ subscores in reading and listening)
  • PTEA 47
  • Password 6.0 Knowledge and 6.0 Writing or
  • Completion of AE Core and OCS Level 5
Bridge Pathway:
  • Select 3-year undergraduate degree or equivalent
  • 2.75 undergraduate GPA equivalent
  • TOEFL iBT 85
  • IELTS 6.5
  • PTEA 58+ or
  • Completion of AE Core and OCS Level 6

Graduate Pathway in Global Affairs

What are the progression requirements? 

Upon successful completion of an INTO Mason Pathway program and meeting university requirements for graduate admission, you may enter your second semester of graduate study at George Mason University. This transition from an INTO Mason Pathway program to a university degree program is called progression. You must meet the following George Mason University Pathway progression criteria in order to progress:

  • Minimum overall GPA: 3.25
  • B or better in all Global Affairs courses, at least one A
  • B or better in all PROV/EAP courses
  • No grades of NC, W, or IN permitted
  • Statement of purpose
  • 2 letters of recommendation

Students are fully admitted to George Mason University provided successful completion of conditional admission criteria at the end of the Pathway and submission of all required admission credentials.
