Graduate Pathway in Graphic Design

Do you want to study for a graduate degree in the United States but need to improve English language skills or test scores? A Pathway program provides academic, language and cultural support in order to succeed at a US university. Students are guaranteed progression to a graduate degree program through curriculum consisting of credit-earning courses. We provide full integration with domestic and international students on campus from highly trained university instructors and tutors while giving you academic support throughout the program.

Graduate Entry Paths and Requirements

There are multiple routes to graduate admission at George Mason University.  As an international graduate student, admission is determined by academic performance and English language proficiency.

*This Pathway accepts students with certain 3-year degrees; see bridge entry requirements. Students will substitute two Mason Core or major courses for EAP 503/504 and selected major course in consultation with an academic advisor.
**Special Topics class may be replaced with a more advanced course if the student demonstrates the competencies required in foundational skills and software packages.
***All applicants are required to submit a digital portfolio with 20 samples of graphic design work demonstrating advanced use of type, image and concept conveying a message in either print or digital media. Applicants should submit their materials in PDF format. CDs or hard-copy submissions will not be accepted. For video submissions, please include a link to you demo reel. Sample work must include: name of artist, title, date, medium and size. In the case of collaborative work, the applicant's role should be clearly stated.

Graduate Pathway in Graphic Design

What are the progression requirements?

Upon successful completion of an INTO Mason Pathway program and meeting university requirements for graduate admission, you may enter your second semester of graduate study at George Mason University. This transition from an INTO Mason Pathway program to a university degree program is called 'progression'. You must meet the following George Mason University Pathway progression criteria in order to progress:

  • Minimum overall GPA: 3.00
  • B or better in all Art courses
  • B- or better in all INTO courses
  • No grades of NC, W, or IN permitted
  • Statement of purpose
  • 1 letter of recommendation

Students are fully admitted to George Mason University provided successful completion of conditional admission criteria at the end of the Pathway and submission of all required admission credentials.
