What is Study Abroad with English?

Study Abroad with English is a long-term course in which students start by studying academic English language and progress to study university undergraduate modules when the required English level is reached. The course can be customised according to different levels of English and specific academic interests.

Study Abroad with English allows you to:

Who should apply for Study Abroad with English?

This programme is suitable for undergraduate students (and graduates, at some centres) who would like to spend time in the UK developing their English language skills, with an opportunity to take academic modules, which may carry credits towards a degree in the home university.

What will I study?

Study Abroad with English is divided into two parts:

There is a variety of fascinating modules available for study, ensuring students make the most of their time abroad. Students choosing academic modules must be available for the entire semester, including exams which may take place in June.

Part 1

Full-time intensive study of English language and study skills at the Centre, for a minimum of one term, in preparation for studying the university academic modules in part 2. The language component of the course is focused core skills equired for international communication.

Part 2

You will be studying academic modules in specialist subjects at Glasgow Caledonian University alongside other UK and international students. You may choose from modules in a wide variety of subjects in consultation with your personal tutor and, if appropriate, the University's International Office. Module selection will depend on the subjects you have previously studied, your academic and English language levels and availability. The number of hours of study is dependent on the modules selected and you will continue to study English language throughout this part of the course to support academic study. You can choose modules from a wide range of undergraduate degrees at Glasgow Caledonian University. Examples of some subject areas available are:

  • Film and Media Studies

  • Tourism

How do I qualify?

Academic requirements:

Successful completion of at least one year of study at a university/college overseas. 

You should provide a statement of your previous university studies and a personal statement explaining which subject areas you would like to study during part 2 of the course. 

In part 2 of the course, you choose from a wide range of academic modules at Glasgow Caledonian University. The University modules are run according to the University's academic calendar, and students wishing to take them must be available for the entire study period. This may mean arranging additional weeks of accommodation and you are advised to check this in the University prospectus or ask your adviser.
