Undergraduate Degree with International Year Two

This three-year programme combines an undergraduate degree at Glasgow Caledonian University with an International Year Two preparation programme. After successful completion of the International Year Two, you'll progress into the third year of a four-year degree at the University.

There are three course options available:

  • Undergraduate Degree with International Year Two - a Year Two (equivalent to an International Diploma) leading to your chosen undergraduate degree, providing a seamless study plan that requires one CAS.
  • Undergraduate Degree with International Year Two and Pre-sessional English - an International Year Two (equivalent to an International Diploma) and your chosen undergraduate degree, with an additional term of English tuition.
  • Undergraduate Degree with International Year Two and Intensive Pre-sessional English - an International Year Two (equivalent to an International Diploma) and your chosen undergraduate degree, with an additional two terms of English tuition.

What's special about this course?

This programme allows you to study your full three year programme under one CAS, which means you won't need to apply for another visa to cover your degree programme study.

In the Year Two preparation programme, you'll study at the INTO Centre on campus. You'll develop your English language and study skills, as well as study a range of academic modules for your chosen degree. After this, you'll study your chosen undergraduate degree at Glasgow Caledonian University.

What if I need to improve my English level?

If you need to improve your English level by up to 0.5 of an IELTS band before you start your course, you can apply for the Pre-sessional English option. This will add a term (3 months) of extra English language tuition to your programme.

What will I study?

You will study 120 credits, and must achieve a minimum of 40% in each module, as well as 60% in the English for Undergraduate Study module in order to continue to Year 3 of your undergraduate degree.

Core modules:

English for Undergraduate Study (20 credits)

Through this module, the four core English skills are covered: reading, writing, listening and speaking. The programme develops overall academic skill areas, including the ability to write effectively for academic purposes using a variety f tasks and the ability to use and synthesise source materials efficiently. It prepares you for participation in academic seminars and discussions, and draws on topics from the social sciences, which will form the basis for creative, academic discussion and student autonomy in learning.

 

Specialist modules:

The course is also made up of specialist modules. These are optional, so you can choose the ones you would like to study as part of your International Year Two programme. 

Each module has a value of 20 credits.

Management Issues and Concepts

This module examines fundamental issues and concepts including diverse conceptions, of what management is and the functions and roles of managers. Current theory and research are integral parts of the module content.

Financial Management for Decision Makers

This module will consider concepts such as detailed analysis of accounting statements prepared using internationally recognized standards, short term and long term financing, taxation and accounting techniques for decision making, planning and control.

Contemporary Cultural Challenges in International Business

This module aims to equip students with an advanced understanding of the main cultural challenges that managers may encounter when implementing strategy in an international business context.

Business Management, Society, Employability and Business

The complex world of society, business and economic transformation presents many challenges to the individual. This module seeks to identify and examine key issues around social innovation and how governments seek to harness the social changes that are emerging for social and economic development.

Essentials of Managing Human Resources

You will be introduced to the context, nature, perspectives and key activities in human resource management. Addressing these issues will provide you with a basic set of concepts relevant to wider perspectives of human resource management.

How do I qualify?

Academic requirements:

Any one of the following: a recognised International Foundation, the first year of a relevant undergraduate degree programme or A-level equivalent in a suitable range of subjects.

English requirements:

Three year programme: IELTS 5.5 (with a minimum of 5.5 in all subskills) or equivalent.

Three year programme with Pre-sessional English: IELTS 5.0 (with a minimum of 5.0 in all subskills) or equivalent. 

Three year degree with Intensive Pre-sessional English: IELTS 4.5 (with a minimum of 4.5 in all subskills) or equivalent.
