Graduate Pathway in Biomechanics

Do you want to study for a graduate degree in the United States but need to improve English language skills or test scores? A Pathway program provides academic, language and cultural support in order to succeed at a US university. Students are guaranteed progression to a graduate degree program through a curriculum consisting of credit-earning courses.

About the program

The Master of Science in Biomechanics program has a mission to prepare students for both advanced studies in human movement science and career paths such as physical therapy and medicine exercise science. With a diverse field, Biomechanics offers a wide variety of career possibilities and specializations. The varied curriculum of Marshall’s Master of Science in Biomechanics program prepares students for this varied career field.

NOTE: No Summer courses are offered for this program. Students starting their Pathway in the spring will take a break in the summer and continue with the second semester in the fall.

Students without an undergraduate Biomechanics degree will require one additional course: Mechanical Analysis of Activity.

  • Bachelor's degree in Biomechanics, Exercise Science or equivalent with 2.5 GPA
  • GRE/GMAT may be required
  • Bachelor's degree in Biomechanics, Exercise Science or equivalent with 2.25 GPA
  • Bachelor's degree in Biomechanics, Exercise Science or equivalent with 2.25 GPA

English Language Requirements:

  • TOEFL iBT 80 or
  • IELTS 6.5 or
  • Completion of Academic English Level 6 with no grades below B
  • TOEFL iBT 70 or
  • IELTS 6.0 or
  • Password Overall Level 7** or
  • PTEA 48** or
  • Completion of Academic English Level 5 with no grades below C
  • TOEFL iBT 80 or
  • IELTS 6.5 or
  • Completion of Academic English Level 6 with no grades below B     

*If you meet all of these criteria, you may apply directly to Marshall University. If you do not meet these criteria, we encourage you to apply to our Pathway and English language programs.

**Students using Password and PTEA as proof of English level will take an English placement test upon arrival. Students scoring below the required entry standard for their Pathway program will be placed in Academic English.

Graduate Pathway in Biomechanics

What are the progression requirements? 

After successfully completing the Pathway program, you are guaranteed to enter a second year of study. This transition to university from an INTO program is called progression. You must meet the following Marshall University Pathway Progression criteria in order to progress:

  • Minimum of 3.0 GPA in graduate level courses
  • No grades below B in all 500/600 level courses
  • No grades below C in all ENG 150, 151 and 160 courses
  • No I grades

You are fully admitted to Marshall University provided you've successfully completed conditional admission criteria at the end of the Pathway program and submitted all required admission credentials.

Where will this take me?

Upon successful completion of the Graduate Pathway program, you will be ready to start your second year in Marshall University's graduate degree program in Biomechanics.
