Graduate Pathway in Geography

Do you want to study for a graduate degree in the United States but need to improve English language skills or test scores? A Pathway program provides academic, language and cultural support in order to succeed at a US university. Students are guaranteed progression to a graduate degree program through a curriculum consisting of credit-earning courses. We provide full integration with domestic and international students on campus from highly trained university instructors and tutors while giving you academic support throughout the program.

About this program

Marshall University’s Master of Arts in Geography program will provide you with an interdisciplinary approach to the field. As a graduate of this program, you will be able to understand and address many modern-day challenges including climate change, natural resource management, economic development, urban planning, and ethnic conflict resolution.

The curriculum of this program prepares you for a variety of careers. Recent graduates have earned jobs as Meteorologists, GIS Specialists, GIS Analysts, Geographer for the US Census Bureau, Assistant Professor and more.

**Students using Password and PTEA as proof of English level will take an English placement test upon arrival. Students scoring below the required entry standard for their Pathway program will be placed in Academic English.

Graduate Pathway in Geography

What are the progression requirements?

After successfully completing the Pathway program, you are guaranteed to enter a second year of study. This transition to university from an INTO program is called progression. You must meet the following Marshall University Pathway Progression criteria in order to progress:

  • Minimum of 3.0 GPA in graduate level courses
  • No grades below B in all 500/600 level courses
  • No grades below C in all ENG 150, 151 and 160 courses
  • No I grades

You are fully admitted to Marshall University provided they have successfully completed conditional admission criteria at the end of the Pathway program and submitted all required admission credentials.

Where will this take me?

Upon successful completion of the Graduate Pathway program, you will be ready to start your second year in Marshall University's graduate degree program in Geography.
