Where will it take me?

As part of the course, you will receive independent advice and guidance to support your university selection and the process of applying to a UK university.  As long as you have met the academic requirements for your chosen degree programme, successful completion of the course offers:

  • direct entry to an undergraduate or postgraduate degree programme at Newcastle University without the need for an external IELTS exam
  • assured progression to the International Foundation or International Diploma or Graduate Diploma programme without the need for an external IELTS exam, subject to meeting Tier 4 student visa requirements

What will I study?

This course will enable you to develop your knowledge, ability and confidence in a variety of skills that are essential for undergraduate and postgraduate study.

Through studying a range of modules you will develop a greater command of written and spoken English, as well as the academic study skills that are critical for university study.

Depending on your level of English, you will spend more hours each week on different modules.

How do I qualify?

English requirements:

A minimum of IELTS 3.0 (with 3.0 in writing) or equivalent.  From 6 April 2015, the Centre can only accept a UKVI approved IELTS test for this course. Read more about UKVI IELTS or contact us for more details.

17 years or above

Tuition fees include:

  • 20 hours per week of university style learning
  • tutorial support
  • welfare guidance
  • further study counselling
  • university resources and learning environment
  • learning materials, access to the internet and online learning resources

Students must take a minimum of one term. Tuition fees do not include textbooks and other learning materials which are an additional £80 per academic term.

How long will it take to improve my IELTS score?

On average students are likely to progress at a rate of about 0.5 on the IELTS scale for every 12 weeks of study. So if you only need to improve your IELTS score by 0.5 you need to study this course for one term. If you need to improve by 1.0 IELTS score then take two terms. Please note that these are guidelines only and every student is different.
