Is a Pathway program right for me?

Do you want to study for a degree in the United States but need to improve English language skills or test scores? A Pathway program provides academic, language and cultural support in order to succeed at a US university. Students are guaranteed progression to an undergraduate degree program. We provide full integration with domestic and international students on campus from highly trained university instructors and tutors while giving you academic support throughout your program.

4-term Pathway

The 4-term Undergraduate Pathway program combines intensive English language study, academic skills development and academic course work. The program is designed to guide students through the first year of an undergraduate degree program. During the fourth term students will complete the additional classes to ensure that they are well prepared for their second year at OSU. It is recommended that all students, especially those in sciences and engineering, plan to study for four consecutive terms.

    High school diploma with a 3.0 GPA (SAT not required)

    TOEFL iBT 80 (minimum 16 subscores) or IELTS 6.5 or completion of Academic English Level 6 or SATV (verbal/critical thinking): 500+ or ACTE (ACT English): 21+

What are the progression requirements?

After successfully completing the 3-Term Pathway program, you are guaranteed to enter a second year of study. This transition to university from an INTO program is called progression. You must meet the following Oregon State University Pathway Progression criteria in order to progress:

  • 2.25 cumulative GPA in the Pathway program
  • No Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory (S/U) graded courses in OSU academic course work
  • Grade of C- or better in English Composition (WR 121), Math (MTH 111 or higher) and Communication (COMM 111)
  • Minimum of 36 credits earned during Pathway program

This Pathway program leads to the second year of the pre-engineering major. At the end of the second year of study, qualified students may compete for admission to the upper division (pro-school) of the engineering degree program. Progression from pre-engineering to pro-school is competitive.

What are my degree options after completing the INTO OSU Pathway?

The INTO OSU Undergraduate Pathway program in Engineering leads to the second year of the pre-engineering major at OSU.

At the end of the second year of study, qualified students may compete for admission to the upper division (pro school) of the engineering degree program. Admitted students can then pursue the following majors at OSU's College of Engineering:

How will an INTO OSU Pathway and an OSU degree program prepare me for success after my studies?

Engineering students get to work on research with real-world applications. Programs and clubs help prepare profession-ready graduates.

Students can complete internships through programs like the Multiple Engineering Cooperative Program (MECOP), where they can develop employment skills and often find future jobs. The program provides the best of both worlds - the university for the technical/theoretical background and selected industries for practical, state-of-the-art applications.
