International Summer School

Join us at INTO St George's, University of London's exclusive two-week Summer School for international students.

With great opportunities for hands-on learning, expert advice on the university application process, and an exciting social programme, the Summer School is ideal if you are considering an undergraduate degree in Medicine at a UK university.

Minimum age: 16

Entry requirements: all students are required to have a good academic record, an interest in studying Medicine, Biomedical or Health Sciences, and an IELTS score of 5.0 (in total and each sub-set) or equivalent.

What is included

  • An introduction to the different careers available in medicine and health sciences.
  • An overview of medical, biomedical and health sciences  degrees in the UK.
  • A taste of what it would be like to study medicine in the UK.
  • The opportunity to experience studying on campus at a London-based hospital and medical school.
  • Visits to local and national attractions.

In addition, the programme will introduce you to the different teaching and learning styles adopted by medical institutions in the UK, as well as providing practical advice on applying to your chosen course.


Support with university applications

You'll receive guidance on applying for a UK degree, including how to write a strong personal statement.

UKCAT: you'll be introduced to the five components of the UKCAT and be given some basic techniques for approaching each section, followed by mock questions for practise.

Preparing for an interview: this session covers common interview questions and what interviewers look for. You’ll also learn about the MMI and take part in a mock MMI session, with feedback.

Planned activities

Welcome and programme overview: ice-breaker activities, including 'Understanding the British' – a fun session discussing aspects of British culture and language.

An overview of medical training and life as a medical student in the UK: you will get an introduction to the careers available in medicine and training in the UK. You’ll also meet current medical students and be given a tour of St George’s Medical School, including its pathology museum.

Introduction to clinical practice: you will be introduced to basic clinical skills, including basic life support, skeletons, reflexes and heart sounds. During this session you will rotate around different stations and get a chance to practise your new skills.

Introduction to surgery: you will be shown a video of a surgery and talked through the procedure with the opportunity to ask questions. You will be taught how to suture, and given the opportunity to put these skills into practise.

Case Based Learning (CBL): work in groups with fellow students to tackle a clinical problem, integrating theory and practice and applying knowledge and skills to develop a solution.


Social activities

There will be plenty of social activities included in the programme to help you get to know one of the world’s most dynamic cities, such as:

  • visiting sights and attractions in London
  • day trip to the British seaside
  • West End show
  • trips to other British towns

The above course fee includes the cost of accommodation, breakfast, dinner and social activities.

The cost does not include air fares, lunch, taxi transfers or insurance.

Accommodation

Accommodation, as well as breakfast and dinner, is included in the course fee.

During your visit, you'll stay in Horton Halls which accommodates almost 500 students in single bedroom units, each with its own en suite facilities. It is only a short walk to local supermarkets and shops and only 15 minutes' walk from the University campus.

A £1,000 deposit towards fees should be paid to INTO St George's, University of London once your application is confirmed to secure a place on the programme.

Fees can be paid using a bank transfer, credit or debit card. Payment details will be provided on application. This course has a limited number of spaces and we would advise students to apply early in order to secure a place.
