What is special about this programme?
The International Year One programme is designed to improve your academic and English language skills, and develop your research abilities in preparation for undergraduate study at the University of East Anglia.
You’ll study alongside current University of East Anglia students for some of your modules, and with INTO students for the remainder of your course. You’ll also benefit from advice and feedback during seminars and tutorials, as well as regular one-to-one meetings with your personal tutor to help you plan for future studies and ensure academic success.
The International Year One programme focuses on the media, political and economic dimensions of international development. Students will develop a thorough understanding of contemporary debates and issues in international development, and encounter a wide variety of topics, from poverty and gender inequality to conflict and economic growth, as well as developing an understanding of the practical application of media theories, principles and concepts in the context of development.
You will attend some lectures and seminars for your International Development modules at UEA alongside current first year students. The majority of seminars and workshops, including language and study skills support, will be taught and assessed at INTO UEA, working in small groups with your tutors to develop your understanding of the topics.
Who should apply for the International Year One programme?
The International Year One is suitable for international students who have completed A-levels or equivalent, or a recognised International Foundation programme, or who are already in the first year of a relevant undergraduate degree in their home country, but don’t meet the academic or English language requirements for direct entry to the University of East Anglia.
