What is special about the programme?

The Graduate Diploma is a full-time academic programme, preparing you for postgraduate study in finance. You will improve your language skills, increase your knowledge in academic subjects and develop the necessary study and research skills for postgraduate study. You will also gain an understanding of the UK education system before entering as a postgraduate.

Teaching methods

This programme will develop your knowledge and skills in managing people, operations and the finance of a business. The specialist investments module includes portfolio management performance, developing your skills in the art of making decisions about investment mix and policy. You will also carry out mock exercises in equity analysis.

Who should apply for the Graduate Diploma programme?

The Graduate Diploma is suitable for international students who need an introduction to the study of a subject in preparation to study it at postgraduate level, or to upgrade qualifications if you have studied a 3 year Diploma in a relevant subject. The Graduate Diploma is also suitable for those that want to increase or update their subject knowledge or those that need to improve their English language study skills within the context of their chosen subject.

What will I study?

You will study the following modules:

Human Resource Management

You will develop your knowledge and skills in managing people. This module will enable you to understand how to negotiate with as well as how to support and reward teams and individuals for whom you are responsible.

Financial Management

You will study the techniques used in managing the finance of a business, and how to monitor and control business performance.

Operations Management

You will develop knowledge of the role and contribution of operations management and production functions in business.

Marketing Management

You will learn how to analyse marketing processes, investigate the purpose of marketing within a business context, and apply marketing to practical situations.

Fundamentals of Investments

This module will equip you with a fundamental knowledge of investment theory and provide a rigorous understanding of the concepts and techniques used by finance specialists. It will enable you to apply these concepts to the practical application of investment analysis.

English language and Communication Skills

Develop your English language proficiency and knowledge of grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation along with skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening. You will also learn skills for academic study at a UK university. You will: Work in a systematic way on key areas of vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation; develop fluency and comprehension skills through extensive reading; learn strategies for reading critically and improve your study skills for assignments; engage in the different stages of the writing process; study the language of academic texts and different genres of writing, and use source references; and practise listening, note-taking, presentation skills and seminar discussion skills.


How will I be assessed?

Assessment is both formal and informal, and designed to help students build on their successes and meet requirements for entry to postgraduate study. Marks do not count towards the Master's qualification, but help the University to assess your abilities in your chosen field of study.

How do I qualify?

Academic requirements:

Applicants are expected to have to have a first degree or equivalent. We will consider a 3-5 year diploma with high grades and work experience.

Minimum equivalent of GCSE Grade C in Maths for all students.

IELTS 5.5 (with a minimum of 5.5 in all subskills) or equivalent.

17 years and above

All students commencing courses on a published September start date must be 17 years old by 31st December of that calendar year. For all other start dates, students must be 17 years old on the published start date of the course.

  • text books and other learning materials: an additional charge in the region of £210 per academic course
