About Queen's University Belfast

What makes Queen's special?

Queen's University Belfast was rated 1st in the UK for international students' overall learning experience by the International Student Barometer 2015.

Its location is mix of modern design with historical architecture. It's the 9th oldest university in the UK, but has a modern campus and excellent facilities. The campus is surrounded by leafy suburbs. It's quiet, calm and safe. But take a 15-20 minute walk and you'll be in the heart of the busy Belfast city centre.

You'll join a community of over 17,000 students from over 80 different countries. The Students' Union brings them all together. They have over 200 clubs and societies for you to join, so you'll have no problem making friends.

The University is one of only a few in the UK with a dedicated International and Postgraduate Student Centre. The Centre runs training sessions, events and workshops and provides support to international students.

As a member of the Russell Group, the University is committed to research. You'll be taught by academics at the top of their fields. And, you'll find unique facilities such as:

Facilities designed for you

Queen's University Belfast is committed to enhancing the international student experience for you. Over the past 10 years, the University has made a multi-million pound investment in accommodation and facilities, so the campus is exceptionally modern and well-equipped.

The INTO Queen's Centre has been designed for you. Located in the heart of campus, it's just a short walk from everything you'll need. It's your safe haven, with support available 24 hours a day.

There are great facilities here to make your learning fun. You can photocopy, print and scan at the Learning Resource Centre. You'll also find subject text books, computers and language dictionaries. You can also load money on your student card which can be used for buying food from the food suppliers on campus.

Need a quiet place to study? You'll find calm, comfortable study spaces in the Centre, with Wi-Fi throughout. When you need to take a break, you can grab a coffee and a snack at the Centre cafe.

Our student services team are here to help you whenever you need us. They'll help you settle into your new life in Belfast. Whether you're opening a bank account or planning a trip somewhere, they'll be there to help.

Worried about learning in English? Don't be. We understand learning in a different language is a big step and we're here to support you every step of the way.

We understand the teaching style might be a bit different to what you're used to. That's ok, we'll help you adapt to things in the UK. You'll get experience of seminars and lectures, essay writing and presentations. By the time you're finished, you'll feel completely prepared for university.

Your experience on campus

Queen's has invested over £350 million over the past 10 years to improve the experience of their international students. They want your university experience to be the very best.

The McClay Library, which is open until 2am throughout the week during term time, contains over 1.2 million books and journals, 2,000 print titles and 20,000 electronic access journals.

When you want to relax, you can head to the Student Union building, which contains a relax and study area called 'The Space'. You'll also find a bank, coffee shops, a food court and meeting rooms there, so you have everything you need at your fingertips.

The Union also hosts over 200 clubs and societies. You'll be able to join as many of them as you like. From origami to trampolining, you're sure to fine one that's perfect for you. Love Sports? Choose from over 50 different sports clubs to join and you'll never be short of friends to play with.
