Campus life at UAB

A vibrant place to live

At the University of Alabama at Birmingham, there are many opportunities for you to get involved, have fun and feel inspired. Nurture your existing abilities or learn a new skill outside of the classroom. With student organizations, campus ministries and so much more, you will always have something to do or new people to meet!

Lifting spirits

The Campus Ministry Association at the University of Alabama (CMA) at Birmingham is made up of professional campus ministers serving the university as representatives of their respective faith communities. The CMA seeks to be inclusive in its membership, which is available to you regardless of your faith. The CMA works with UAB to enable and enhance, without prejudice, the spiritual life of everyone in the university community.

The Blazers play at the NCAA Division I level

Get in the game

The university is proud to have almost 400 student-athletes participating in the highest level of college sports, NCAA Division I, in Conference USA. Athlete selection and scholarships are determined by the university coaching staffs and are highly competitive.

Club sports are a great way to compete in athletics without the pressure or the time commitment of Division I. A club sport is a registered student organization that can provide a program of instruction, recreation or competition in a specific sport or activity. Club sports vary in size and skill level in order to meet the needs and interests of students, faculty and staff. Each club establishes its own organizational structure, leadership and performance level. UAB currently has 21 club sports including cricket, lacrosse, soccer and rugby.

Student Wellness Center

The Student Wellness Center is open at all times

Ensuring your health and safety

The recently renovated Student Health Services and Counseling and Wellness Center includes 23,000 square feet of space dedicated to the health, counseling and wellness needs of UAB students. The facility is equipped to meet all your primary health care needs including: appointments with healthcare providers, routine diagnostic lab testing and X-ray services.

UAB is very safe and has its own full-service law enforcement agency on campus.  The B-ALERT system is used to communicate to the entire campus at the same time. You can choose which method of communication suits you best—voice call, SMS text message. Transit Blazer Express, UAB’s campus bus service, offers free transportation for students, employees and authorized visitors along six routes—some of which run as late as midnight.

UAB dining options

UAB offers a number of international dining spots

Dining made simple

Eating on campus gives you the advantage of never having to worry about carrying cash. We have 12 restaurants, all of which accept the ONE Card for payment, and two convenience stores on campus. From all-you-can-eat options at Commons on the Green to quicker stops like Sandella’s Flatbread Cafe and Panera Bread, there are plenty of options. The dining hall also has a station for food allergies and intolerance. Dishes that don't contain milk, eggs, wheat, soy, shellfish, peanuts, tree nuts or gluten can be found at the Simple Servings station. There are also two Starbucks on campus that are open early in the morning and late at night to give you that extra energy boost when you most need it.
