Your programs at George Mason University
In addition to direct entry, George Mason University offers a number of routes to admission for students who don't yet meet the academic and English language requirements for their chosen degree program.
International Year One and the Undergraduate Transfer Program allow students to start earning credit towards their bachelor’s degree while receiving additional academic, social and cultural support during their first year.
The Graduate Pathway or Graduate Bridge programs help students improve the skills needed for advanced graduate study and academic research at Mason. INTO Mason’s unique 2-semester Bridge program allows students with select three-year undergraduate degrees to begin taking classes in their master’s program while completing core education requirements.
Graduate Certificate Pathway programs enable students to earn a graduate certificate as a stand-alone option or to apply the certificate credit toward one of our master's degree programs.
Direct Entry
If you already meet the university's academic and English language requirements, you may be eligible to apply directly to an undergraduate or graduate degree.
Direct Entry
International Year One
International Year One allows you to begin earning credits toward your degree even if you don’t meet the academic and English requirements for direct entry. You’ll receive additional support to move you successfully through your first year and graduate in the same amount of time as domestic students. Depending on your English language scores, you’ll enter International Year One through a customized program that lasts one or more semesters.
Transfer Program
If you’ve already completed college or university-level courses and want to transfer to another university, our Undergraduate Transfer Program (UTP) is for you. Our advisor will help to review your transcript and plan out your classes so that you don’t repeat coursework. You’ll receive an estimate of transferable credits toward your degree before you start your program. We offer a variety of program length options, tailored to your English skills.
Graduate Pathway
Graduate Pathway is a 6-12 month program providing additional language, academic and cultural support leading to the next semester of a graduate degree. Pathway classes will help you improve the study skills you need for advanced graduate study and academic research. We design each Pathway for a specific master’s degree so you can save time and money by completing academic course work while you prepare to progress to your degree. You can choose a 1-Semester to 3-Semester option, depending on your English language level.
