We're here to help you

At INTO Manchester we're here to support you throughout your journey to university. Whether you need help improving your conversational English, choosing a university or even where to find food from your home country - we're here to help you adjust to life in the UK.

The friendly Student Services team are there to make you feel right at home, have a question about your accommodation or your course? No problem! That’s just what we’re here for. The support doesn’t end there as we have a dedicated Student Placement team to guide you with your university application.

Getting settled in Manchester

Studying in another country can be a big adjustment but we’re here to help! During your first weeks at the INTO Manchester Centre, we'll give you all the information you’ll need to help settle into your new surroundings.

Our orientation programme is designed to help you settle into life as an international student in Manchester. We’ll show you where your classes will be and take you around the local area to show you nearby shops and points of interest. You can also sign up for social activities or groups with your new friends! The orientation programme includes:

  • meeting your teachers and classmates
  • receiving your timetable
  • collecting your biometric residency permit
  • registering with the police
  • registering with a doctor and dentist
  • opening a bank account
  • joining social activities, clubs and sports teams.

We’ll also show you how to get around Manchester, helping you navigate the nearest shops and points of interest. There's also a 24-hour emergency helpline telephone number should you need to get in touch with us outside of office hours.

Academic support

Our teachers understand your needs, and are dedicated to your success. At the beginning of your course you’ll be told who your Academic Advisor is, and you’ll meet with them in your first week.

You can approach them for help with any academic questions or personal issues at any time throughout your studies. They’ll help you settle in, monitor your academic progress, and can refer you to additional academic and welfare support if needed.

English language support

Language advisers are available in the Centre to help students with a low level of English to communicate.

A Chinese Language Support Officer is also on-hand to provide dedicated language support to Chinese students.

Other language support services include extra individual and small group academic lessons, online support, revision sessions, and one-to-one teaching at an additional cost.

Personal support

While you're studying at INTO Manchester, your personal wellbeing is very important to us. We offer additional personal support services including:

  • a confidential service for students is available offering advice and information on disabilities such as dyslexia, sensory impairments and other medical conditions
  • a handy airport pick-up service (additional cost)
  • residential wardens in your accommodation
  • dedicated student counsellors that can talk to you about any problems
  • dedicated religious facilities.

Dedicated support programmes

The INTO Manchester Leadership and Professional Development Programme helps you to develop key skills which can be use as part of your university applications. During workshops over 8 weeks, you’ll explore new topics, express opinions in English and improve teamwork skills.

Support for under 18s

Before the Centre accepts a student who is under 18 years of age, their parent or guardian must sign a consent form agreeing the outlines of the INTO Under 18 Policy. Relevant forms will be sent to parents and the student with confirmation documents. No student will be accepted at the Centre without completing and returning these forms before the start of the course.

During their first week students under the age of 18 are given a point of contact and the Centre's code of conduct. At this point students will be advised on the support they will receive due to their age and the rules and safeguards that are put in place for their wellbeing are explained.

All under 18s are required to live in INTO Manchester residential or approved homestay accommodation. For further details please contact us.
