Student support at UWA College

Both UWA College and The University of Western Australia will provide you with a fantastic range of student-centered support. When you arrive at UWA College, the Student Services team will help you settle in to student life in Perth and they'll remain your first point of contact for a range of non-academic issues.

From the moment you arrive, we'll be there to support you. If you'd like us to meet you at the airport, we can be there. If you need to register with a doctor, for example, we'll provide guidance on exactly how to do it.

You’ll take part in an orientation program in your first week to give you the chance to meet other students, help you settle in and give you all the information you need. You’ll be shown around the Perth campus, have your questions answered and attend social events. You can also join the many student-led sports clubs and societies, giving you the chance to meet University students.

Our teachers understand your needs, and are dedicated to your success. At the beginning of your course you’ll be told who your Personal Tutor is, and you’ll meet with them in your first week.

You can approach them for help with any academic questions or personal issues at any time throughout your studies. They’ll help you settle into life at UWA, monitor your academic progress, and can refer you to additional academic and welfare support if needed.

Language advisers are available in the Centre to help students with a low level of English to communicate.

Other language support services include extra individual and small group academic lessons, online support, revision sessions, and one-to-one teaching at an additional cost.

It's a requirement of The Department of Home Affairs that international students on a student visa must have health cover for the length of their visa from an approved Australian health provider.  The UWA preferred provider is Medibank.

OSHC assists you to meet the costs of medical and hospital care you might need while in Australia.

You're required to purchase ‘Visa Length Cover’ which will be outlined on your offer letter and payable with the initial tuition fees. When you arrive in Australia you can register and order your membership card on the Medibank OSHC App or the Medibank website.

For students with cover through Medibank, a dedicated Medibank representative is at Student Central every Tuesday and Thursday 8.30am to 4.30pm, during semester, for enquiries and claims.

OSHC is also offered by several other providers.  To obtain health cover from another insurer, refer to the Australian Government's Private Health website for options.
