Pre-sessional English

This course will provide you with a short and intensive preparation in English language and study skills if you are due to start an undergraduate or postgraduate degree at the University of East Anglia in September.

Between 20 and 21 hours per week of preparation in academic English.

How do I qualify?

English language requirements:

12 Weeks: You must be a maximum of one IELTS band lower than the level required by your University School of Study, both overall and in any specified skill.

16 Weeks: You must be a maximum of one IELTS band lower than the level required by your University School of Study, overall, with up to 1.5 IELTS band lower in one specified skill and one IELTS band in the others.

8 Weeks: You must be a maximum of 0.5 IELTS point band lower than the level required by your University School of Study, both overall and in any specified skill.

Age requirements: 17 years and above
Academic requirements:

Offer of a place at UEA.

Entry requirements additional information:

Only an official IELTS or other secure English language test (SELT) will be accepted as proof of English language proficiency.

Please ensure you consult your University School of Study for details of the English language level (both overall and for specific skills) required for entry onto your chosen course.

Students with offers for the 12, 8, 6 or 4 week course may be eligible for a joint CAS, which allows you to apply for a visa to cover both the Pre-sessional course and subsequent degree. To be considered for this, you need to pay the INTO Pre-sessional initial payment, and any academic conditions on the UEA offer need to have been met.

Class information

Class duration:

Classes are held Monday to Friday between 8.30am-6.30pm, excluding bank holidays.

How do I qualify?

4 Weeks: You must have achieved the required IELTS level (overall and in any specified skills) required by your University School of Study, and been accepted onto the course.

6 Weeks: You must have achieved the overall IELTS grade required by your University School of Study but have 0.5 lower than the requirement in one specified skill.

We will confirm all dates and prices for the academic year 2020-2021 on or before 20 January 2020, with the prices being subject to a maximum increase of up to 5% on the prices for the current academic year.  If you submit an application prior to this date and are eligible to be issued with an offer of a place it will contain pricing for the current academic year. If you accept an offer and confirm your place before 20 January 2020 you will be charged the current price. If you accept an offer and confirm your place on or after 20 January 2020 the increased prices will apply and we will issue you with a new offer showing the new prices payable by you.
