INTO UAB frequently asked questions (FAQ)
If you’ve received an offer letter to be in a Pathway program, it is because you did not meet the competitive academic and/or English requirements to be admitted directly to The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). It was determined that you have a great potential to be successful at UAB but could benefit from the extra support that INTO UAB provides. Upon successful completion of a Pathway program, you gain full admission into one of UAB’s undergraduate or graduate programs to complete your studies.
INTO is a university partnership program that provides students with the opportunity to study in the UK, US and Australia.
INTO UAB has helped thousands of students succeed in higher education for over seven years. We offer exceptional support services before, during and after your studies with us, so you can concentrate on your success. We pride ourselves on our diverse environment and provide different programs to suit your needs. We also prepare international students to adapt to the educational, social and cultural norms of the United States while pursuing a degree at UAB.

International Year One (Pathway program) allows you to earn credits toward your undergraduate degree even if you do not meet the academic and/or English requirements for direct admission. International Year One is designed to help you successfully complete your first year and graduate in the same amount of time as fellow freshmen. With 56+ bachelor’s degrees, flexible study plans and start dates throughout the year, we’ll help you find the program that’s right for you.
Our Graduate Pathway program will give you the academic foundation and essential language skills to successfully move on to your master’s degree. You’ll receive the highest level of support throughout your program, including personalized academic advising.
Integrated Master’s Program (IMP) provides comprehensive academic support and services in the first term of select graduate programs. IMP students are full degree-seeking students who are issued a degree-seeking I-20. We take any concerns out of the application process and academic journey by providing pre-arrival outreach, airport pickup, dedicated orientation, academic and cultural advising, counseling, out-of-class activities, as well as use of all UAB and INTO UAB on-campus resources, classrooms and facilities.
IMP is available for many of our most popular graduate degrees, with a curriculum focused on both major coursework and building skills for success in graduate work. Three core classes build credit toward your degree, with a fourth class focused on graduate learning in the US, including research documentation techniques, presentation skills and how to navigate the US higher education system.
The courses completed during the Pathway will count towards your degree at UAB, so you will be able to graduate at the same time as fellow undergraduate or graduate peers. No time is lost! You will have access to a wide range of complementary services, including academic advising and tutoring, visa and immigration support, international orientation, pre-arrival support and airport pickup, cultural and professional workshops, and student events and activities.
The Pathway program is set up to allow students an opportunity to complete their degree in the same amount of time as a direct entry student. Some undergraduate and graduate programs do have additional pre-requisite course requirements students will need to take, and this could add additional time to your specific study plan.
Costs vary from year to year. For more information, visit our fees and finance page.
